Adrian Clifton "Cliff" Miller
July 21, 1921 - December 7, 2011
SALEM -Our wonderful father, Cliff Miller, passed away peacefully at his home in Salem on December 7. He was 90. Cliff was born in 1921 to Whitney and Ruth Miller at his Grandfather Barker's home in Hopville, a small farming community also known as Modeville, south of Independence, Oregon. He graduated from Independence High School in 1939. Cliff attended college at OCE in Monmouth, the University of Colorado in Boulder and the University California at Berkley. He joined the Navy in 1942 and served as a Radioman 3rd Class in the South Pacific.
Cliff married his sweetheart, Leona Reed of Sweet Home, in 1944. After the Navy, Cliff worked as a hop farmer, an assistant manager at J.C. Penney and eventually started his career as a school teacher. Cliff taught elementary school at Liberty School in Salem and Tennessee School in Lebanon, Oregon. He later taught at Parish and Judson and Walker Jr. High.
He retired from teaching in 1979. His wife of 43 years, Leona, passed away in 1987. Cliff married Mary Steenkolk Everett in 1989. Cliff enjoyed a large extended family with Mary's daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Cliff belonged to the Elks, and Lions clubs, and played the harmonica and "Gut Bucket" with the Salem-Keizer Senior Novelty Band. He loved people, children, traveling and camping.
He was preceded in death by his wife Leona, his second wife Mary and his only grandchild Jeffrey Boock.
Cliff is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Boock and Carol Miller and stepdaughters Linda Bevard and Leah Hayward.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Restlawn Funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name at Marion-Polk Food share, 1660 Salem Industrial Dr. NE, Salem, Or. 97301.
