Mr. Albert Louis Madding, Jr., age 91, of Salem, passed away Tuesday evening, March 4, 2025, at Salem Health Hospital. He was born July 6, 1933, in Orchards, Washington, a son of the late Albert and Esther Wells Madding.
Al, as he was affectionately known, had four siblings, John Madding (deceased), Aloha Banker, Mary Caldwell and David Madding.
He was a member of Family Life Church of West Salem and enjoyed studying his Bible and singing gospel hymns. As a hobby, he was often spending his spare time researching his family's genealogy, tracing his ancestors back to John Tyler, the tenth president of the United States.
Al had six sons and four daughters, both biological and step-children, Adona LaVonne Madding Holliday (deceased), David Masters, Allyn Leroy Madding, Timothy Earl Madding, Benjamin Christopher Clemens, Tamara May Madding Cavilee, Brenda J. Wallace, Mary J. Wallace, David Allen Frinzi and Brian Anthony Frinzi.
He was a gentle, unassuming man with a sly sense of humor. He had a young-at-heart quality. You could get a flavor of this as he would carry on a conversation or tell stories of family going back several generations. Al knew no strangers, often striking up a conversation with, what he perceived as new friends.
There will be a private celebration of Al's life to be conducted at Restlawn Memory Gardens with family and close friends. Because of his heart for those less fortunate and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Salem Union Gospel Mission.
