Alfred Frank Cermak, resident of Salem passed away on September 28, 2013 at the age of 95 . He was born in Highmore, South Dakota to Frank and Bessie (Menhart) Cermak, the second of six children, growing up on the family farm. Alfred moved to Lebanon, SD in 1941 with first wife Lola Titze, raising pigs and crops on their farm. They had two children named Leila and Charlene. After Lola passed away, he moved to Oregon in 1946. He was amazed by the green grass and tall trees so decided to stay. Al married Myrna Charlson. They had two children, Carol and Michael, together living in Albany, OR and later divorced. Through the years , Al worked at a saw mill and Nebergall Meat Packing plant in Albany. In 1968 Al married Autumn Olsen and had a son named Aaron while living in Salem, OR, working once again as a farmer, raising hay, grains, cattle and sheep. He sold hay and straw to the horse race track at the State Fair Grounds and enjoyed betting on the horse races. Al was a member of the Elks Lodge for 62 years. He liked watching Lawrence Welk and had danced to the band in South Dakota. Al enjoyed fishing , elk, and deer hunting with friends, John, Mike, and Mark.
Al is survived by wife Autumn, daughter Charlene Johnson of Albany, Carol Lavoie (Denis) of Mason, NH and son Aaron of Woodburn, OR. , six grand children Kela, Willie, Tanya, Bobbie Jo, Kim ,and Wendy, and ten great grand children. Preceding him in death was first wife Lola Titze , second wife Myrna Charlson, daughter Leila Murphy, and granddaughter Tori Clack, sister Sadie Single, brothers, Arthur, Melvin, Leland and Royal Cermak.
Funeral service will be held 11 am, Saturday October 5, 2013 at Restlawn Funeral Home, 201 Oak Grove Rd. NW, Salem , Oregon.
