After a tough 5 year battle with Parkinson’s A. Robert “Bob” Miller went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 6, 2018.
He was born on November 3, 1931 in Salem, Oregon to Ralph and Jennie Miller. He was the 2nd of three children. His siblings included older brother Harlan and younger sister Dorothy. There were also two older siblings from a previous marriage – Ted Miller and Glee Nelson. He grew up and lived in Salem. After graduating from Salem High School in 1949 he met the love of his life, Marlene Mason. They were married on January 3, 1953 at Court Street Christian Church, where they were life time members. They were married 65 years.
Bob worked for Martin Brothers Neon Sign Company for 30 years. He started as a sheet metal worker, moving to sales and ultimately general manager. He also was associated with the Keizer Fire District for 38 years as a volunteer fire fighter, board member and eventually serving as president of the Oregon Fire District Directors Association (OFDDA).
Among the things Bob truly enjoyed most was supporting his family. Through the years he loved being a part of what his children and grandchildren were doing. He was actively involved and supportive in each of their lives. Bob also had a great love for adventure and the outdoors. One of his favorite ways to experience this was on his motorcycle. Whether it was a short trip for coffee, a day trip with his riding buddies, or a cross country excursion, he loved it all. In his retirement years he also spent time at his church helping with many projects, earning him the title of “Bob the Builder” from the pre-school children.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene; three children, Doug Miller (Joyce), Becky Herbst (Don), and Greg Miller (Paula); seven grandchildren, Danny Herbst, Wayne Miller, Todd Herbst, Kayla Remmy, Joanna Miller, Amy Roth, and Kelsey Miller; and 3 great-grandchildren, Emmett, Colton and Wesley.
Services will be held at Court Street Christian Church on August 25th at 2pm. There will be a viewing open to the public on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Arrangements are being handled by Restlawn Funeral Home.
