Anna Smith Davis , born June 1, 1922, died in Salem, Oregon on April 6, 2012. Educated at Ward Belmont Academy, Nashvile, she married Dr. William S. Davis in 1943. They moved to Rochester, New York, for his pediatric residency and she worked at the Manhattan Project. In early 1946 they moved to Denver, where Dr. Davis began his pediatric career and they raised their family. She was a volunteer at Chidren's Hospital for many years, conducted the annual raffle held in conjuction with the fall Children's Hospital Fashion Show, was chairman of both Children's Hospital Show House fundraiser, and also the Children's Hospital Fashion Show Gala when it moved to an evening event. During the late 50's and early 60's Ann and her business partner, Ann Claycomb, were the original owners of the Strawberry Tree yarn shop, located in what is now Cherry Creek North. She was also renowned for her beautiful needlepoint work and was chosen from many applicants to needlepoint a kneeling bench for the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Ann was predeceased by her husband in 1976, but is survived by her four daughters, Judy and Debby Davis, Kacky (Jerry) Hayes, all of Salem, and Val (Chuck) Lawton of Denver, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
