Arletta B. Kirby passed away December 29, 2019 in her residence at Capital Manor in Salem, Oregon. Arletta was born June 9, 1929 in Forsyth, Montana to Percy and Ellen Kleeman. Arletta was one year old when the family moved to Salem, Oregon and joined numerous other relatives. Arletta became an avid skater and spent many hours roller skating at the Capitol Rink as well as the Mellow Moon in West Salem. She also had a strong talent for portrait and mural painting.
In the mid 1940s, Arletta’s parents owned and operated a restaurant called the Blue Anchor located in the 1100 block of Edgewater Street in West Salem. At the conclusion of World War II, in 1945, Arletta met her husband to be, Harris Kirby. They were married December 20, 1946 at the Kingwood Bible Church in West Salem. Her husband spent 29 years as a State Police Officer and retired in 1981. They enjoyed many years of traveling and eventually settled down in a home in West Salem. Arletta and her husband were married for 73 beautiful years and enjoyed more than 37 years of retirement.
Arletta is survived by spouse Harris Kirby, preceded in death by her daughter, Rhea Rogers, and is survived by Teala Hughes (Bob), and Starla Zwaschka (Garry), as well as 3 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Kingwood Bible Church.
At the request of the deceased, no services will be held. The family is having a private interment at Belcrest Memorial Park.
