Barney Lee White passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Salem Oregon early in the morning on August 17, 2021, at age 84.
He was born to Lee and Mabel White on November 26, 1936, in Portland, Oregon. Early in his childhood years, Barney’s family lived in San Francisco for a few years before returning to Oregon where he spent the remainder of his life in Salem. As a child he enjoyed outdoor activities and boxing and basketball in his high school and young adult years.
Barney met his wife Mary Lynn Sovenski in 1958 at a church event. They married three years later, on June 23, 1961, and went on to have two children, Janie Lynn and Jeffrey Lee.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving husband and father, Barney held an unwavering faith in God. He also loved outdoor camping, hiking and recreational team sports. Barney stayed actively involved with People’s Church for over four decades holding various volunteer teaching and deacon roles. Barney completed a teaching degree from WOSC in Monmouth, Oregon and He was a 6th grade teacher for seven years at Liberty Grade School in Salem. After teaching, he spent the remainder of his career as the Owner/Broker at Towne Square Real Estate.
Barney joins his parents, Lee and Mabel in Heaven. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn, his sister, Pauline Crawford, Jeff, Janie and her husband Stephen Lautenschlager, and their two sons Brandon and Blake.
There will be no funeral or memorial service at the request of his surviving family.
