Bruce Marble Remillard, age 90, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 in Corvallis, OR surrounded by family.
Bruce, the oldest of four children, was born December 30, 1928 in Yakima, WA to Joseph James and Marie (Marble) Remillard. Bruce spent his childhood throughout Washington (Everett, Arlington, Wenatchee, Seattle). In 1947, he graduated from Highline High School in Seattle. He served as a sergeant in the Army National Guard from 1949-52 and Army Reserve from 1952-55. He received a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington in 1957. After graduation, he accepted a job in Los Angeles, CA where he met Nancy Lou Siegel while folk dancing. In 1958, they married and began building their life together in Los Angeles; purchasing their first house and starting a family. Family was always very important to him. He and Nancy were devoted parents, and also made time to continue their love of folk dancing every Friday night with their international folk dance group.
Bruce spent most of his career as a computer software engineer and technical teacher/trainer. He was employed by Hughes Aircraft, Scientific Data Systems (later called Xerox Data Systems) and Honeywell Information Systems. In 1974, Xerox transferred Bruce and his family to London, England where he served as a software trainer. In 1976, at the completion of the assignment, he relocated to Phoenix, AZ. He loved learning new things and outside of work took courses in financial planning and real estate investment, both of which he was involved in during his later career. After nearly 40 years in Phoenix, he downsized to move to Corvallis, OR, where he lived his final six years, first in an independent senior living community and then a small assisted living adult foster care home where he was well supported by caregivers and hospice workers.
Throughout his life, Bruce had a natural mechanical aptitude and loved building things. In his younger years, he enjoyed amateur radio, model airplane building and other types of engineering challenges. Other early hobbies included roller skating, music (piano, accordion and organ) and flying (private pilot’s license). He was an avid folk dancer and also enjoyed, and taught, other types of international dancing. He enjoyed traveling. There were many family trips throughout the US, as well as exploring Europe while living overseas. Over the last 10 years, he enjoyed regular trips with his daughters, and their families. Bruce was an advocate for healthy, natural eating, including grinding his own flour to make bread. He loved being outdoors and preferred to be active, either walking for hours or, more recently, riding a bicycle.
Bruce is survived by his four daughters, Lisa Remillard (Wendy McGinnis) of Portland, OR, Janine Remillard (David Tristano) of Philadelphia, PA, Judi Remillard (Matt Williams) of Santa Cruz, CA, and Suzanne Marie Remillard (Kyle Kotwica) of Corvallis, OR; five grandchildren, Nate, Skyler, Samantha, Alexander, and Kimberly; brother Marvin Remillard of Burlington, WA; sister Margaret Lindstrom of Walla Walla, WA, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, in 1989 and his sister, Darlene Remillard Stanley, in 2013
A celebration of life will be held at 1pm, Saturday, March 30, at Valley Catering’s Clubhouse in Adair Village, 6097 NE Ebony Lane, Corvallis, OR 97330.
