SALEM - Carol R. (Conover) Wood passed away February 22, 2008 at the age of 85. Born in Wymore, Nebraska, Carol moved with her family to Oregon during the depression and settled in Garibaldi for a few years. The family then moved to Independence where she graduated from Independence High School in 1940. She married Claude A. Wood on August 16, 1941, in Independence. They moved to Salem where Carol was a homemaker raising 3 daughters. Carol enjoyed flowers, traveling, going to Reno and Spirit Mountain, bingo, bowling league, and reading. She is survived by her husband of 66 years; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Bob Heckman, Janice and Larry Sanderson, and Marcia and Dana Steelman; granddaughter and husband, Angela and Todd Allen; grandson, Rob Heckman; brothers, Carl Conover and Robert Conover; brother-in-law and wife, Dwight and Carol A. Wood; and numerous neices and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Willamette Valley Hospice. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 27th, at Restlawn Funeral Chapel.
