Charlene Kay Marcus
April 1, 1944 – January 18, 2023 (78 yrs.)
Charlene Kay Marcus passed away on Wednesday, January, 18th in Salem, Oregon after a long battle with cancer and other health complications.
Born in Boise, Idaho Kay was the daughter of the late Leo and Viola Lung. She was the second eldest of eight siblings (Ann, Carol, Diane, Judy, Karen, Ginger, and Joe).
Kay left Idaho at an early age after attending Borah High School for adventures in California before returning to Idaho where she met and married Kent Marcus. Kay and Kent had two sons, Rich and Lance. Kent’s profession took the family to many places, including Albany, Oregon and Nome, Alaska. Tragically, Kent was killed on the job as a pilot in Alaska. Soon after, Kay and her two young sons moved back to Albany, Oregon, where she sold real estate and owned and operated a hair salon for many years. In 1988, Kay moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon, where she would eventually meet one of her dearest and closest friends, Mike Misner. In 2013, Kay re-located to Keizer, Oregon to be closer to family.
Kay loved people and could talk to anyone. She especially enjoyed connecting with people and embracing their life’s' journeys. Almost everything she owned had someone's story attached to it - it was her way of embracing and honoring the opportunity she was given to make a special connection with someone.
Kay was also very adventurous– once her sons had graduated high school, she took the opportunity to work at both the Grand Canyon and Dutch Harbor, Alaska. She also spent a summer exploring the Hawaiian Islands, she traveled through Europe with friends, and she spent an entire summer living and hiking on the Oregon Coast. Kay also loved animals, and she especially enjoyed caring for her beloved dog, Mika. She loved watching movies, eating at Taco Bell, drinking diet coke (with LOTS of ice) and doing word games. Mostly, she loved spending time with her sons and all of her family and friends.
Kay is survived by all of her siblings, her eldest son (Rich), 3 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her first husband (Kent) and youngest son (Lance).
In honor of Kay’s life a celebration will be planned for a future date. In the interim, Kay would love for you to consider playing a word game, caring for an animal, helping a stranger, or simply spending time with family.
