March 15, 1932 - June 23, 2014
Chuck went to be with his Lord Jesus on June 23, 2014 at the age of 82 years and 3 months.
Chuck's family included his parents Ira Benton and Jewel McCoin; and siblings Clovis, Leroy, Evelyn, J.C., and MaryJo McCoin.
Chuck married his high school sweetheart, Rose Leavitt, on October 2, 1949, in Fresno, California. They lived most of their married life in Concord, California, until moving to the Salem, Oregon area in 2007. Chuck was a Teamster for 20 years, working first as a long-haul trucker and then later more locally.
Later in life, he went back to school earning his A.A. degree in theology at Western Baptist Bible College (now Corban University). Chuck became a pastor and was heavily involved in ministries in several churches including Clayton Valley Baptist Church in Concord, CA., and Hillside Baptist in Antioch, CA. He loved telling people about Jesus and had a very active visitation and evangelism ministry, as well as teaching adult bible classes at the various churches. Chuck LOVED baseball (Go Volcanoes!) and attended local Volcanoes games as often as possible. If there was a baseball game of any kind being broadcast he was listening on the radio or watching on TV. He was also an avid wood-worker and crafted many cherished pieces for his family and friends in his workshop in the backyard. As a younger man, Chuck enjoyed camping with his family and the occasional hunting trip with friends.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Rose McCoin, and his children Roger McCoin and wife Marian, Cheryl Cowan and husband Dan, Mark McCoin and wife Wendy, and Suzanne Muller. He has 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a nephew and niece and several cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Wed, July 2, 2014, at Grace Baptist Church in Salem, Oregon. A private family graveside service will be held at Restlawn Memory Gardens Salem, Oregon
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in Chuck's name are suggested and would be appreciated as Chuck was also a multiple cancer survivor.
