Chelby Melain Thies, 44, died Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield, OR, with her two daughters by her side. Chelby, born June 4, 1976, grew up in Salem, OR, and graduated from North Salem High School in 1994. She held a variety of jobs after high school including Healthy Bodies gym, the Chalet restaurant, and Nordstrom’s in the Salem Center Mall. Chelby spent her life living each day to its fullest, creating lasting memories which her friends and family will cherish forever. Chelby was a perfect example of what a good friend should be and as a result, Chelby had an abundance of wonderful friends in her life. Even though Chelby battled through a variety of health problems, she refused to be held back and was always on the go and ready for an adventure. She loved trips to the beach, shopping at Target, home decorating, photography, camping and boating, spending time with her friends, but above all else, she loved her daughters, Macarthy and Monroe. Chelby was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Kathleen. Chelby is survived by her daughter Monroe, daughter Macarthy (Jake Witt), Chelby’s longtime boyfriend Mark Graves, brother Corey Byrd, and sister SanDee Taylor. Chelby will be deeply missed. In honor of Chelby, family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life held on June 26, 2021 at the Chemawa Indian School Football Stadium at 2:00 pm. Charitable contributions honoring Chelby can be made to the American Heart Association.
