Clair H Dunlevy (Oct 10, 1921 - Oct 5, 2015)
Clair H Dunlevy a long time Central Howell resident left his family and friends on October 5, 2015, 5 days before his 94th birthday after a courageous fight against several illnesses.
He was born in Coon Rapids, Iowa and the big brother to 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Clair joined the Marines in 1940 at the age of 19 during World War II. He held the very important position of radio operator and survived several bombing raids while on the ship The Mississippi. In 1945 he was discharged and came to Salem to work for PGE where he worked from 1945 - 1950. On September 20, 1950 he married Erma in Reno, NV. He was married less than 1 month when the Marines needed his services again and pulled him back into service to fight in the Korean War until 1951.
He returned to Salem and he and Erma had 3 children, Greg, Caroline and David. He worked at PGE as a lineman and then as a trouble shooter for over 30 years retiring at 61 years old to care for his wife Erma who passed away on May 27, 1990.
Clair was a familiar sight in his silver electric Honda car, always staying on his schedule to leave in the morning to venture to town to eat at McDonald's and visit with his buddies and then returning home at 2:30 so he could watch Dr. Phil. He was a master of electricity and would help out the widows he met at the Senior Center with their wiring needs. He was a man who wanted to live on his own in his own home and did so up until 6 weeks before his passing.
He is survived by his sons, David (Dawn), Greg, daughter Caroline, sisters, Betty, Della, Ion and 2 grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Tyson and Emily Graves and their staff at Assured Health for their caring for Clair in his last days, your help during this difficult time was very appreciated.
