Clemens Arthur Seils was born in Danville, IL, on July 13,1921, over 99 years ago. He was named after his father’s favorite teacher. Only German was spoken in his household until he started first grade. They lived next door to the neighborhood Lutheran church where his father was a teacher and the organist. He received a BA in Political Science from the University of Illinois and was on the Varsity tennis team. He then started his MBA at The Wharton School. But World War II interrupted his studies, taking him in the Army behind enemy lines in Germany to translate German communications.Clem met Sally Ann Mulberry in 1946 while she was a high school teacher at the same school as his best friend. He was so nervous about their first date that he brought the friend along! Sally apparently didn’t seem to mind. They married in September 1947 and were blessed with three children — Mark, Sherry and Matthew. They lost Mark in 1972. Their two granddaughters are Kristen in Irvine, CA and Lauren in Salem, OR. And Clem lived long enough to see his 8-month old great-grandson Calvin several times. After stints with Federal Reserve Banks and as a college professor, Clem’s career with the 3M Company spanned over 30 years. He and Sally moved to the beach in Southern California in 1976 and thoroughly enjoyed their Life of family, church, gardening, tennis, travel and philanthropy. He lost his beloved Sally in 2009.On July 24, 2020, the Lord called Clemens home to a joyful reunion in Heaven with Sally and Mark. His humble approach fo Life built on Christian values will be remembered by all who knew him.We love you and miss you more than words can say.
