SALEM - Woody went home to heaven on June 2, 2011, after living a full life.
Woody served for 3 ? years aboard the U.S.S. Dunlap (DD-384) during World War II as a Motor Machine Second Class and had the honor of being present during the surrender of the Bonin Islands. He returned home to Salem in November 1945, and married Lola Jean Brittell. He began working at Hogg Bros. and raised two children, Sandy and Dennis. He continued working in the appliance repair business until he married Esther Jean Barnett and moved to Lake Elsinore, California to work for Gem Products, Inc. as an Engineer. He eventually moved back to Salem where he departed his full life at the age of 87.
Woody enjoyed flying and twice flew across country with Esther Jean. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks and the Ainsworth Lodge No. 201 of the Masons.
He was preceded in death by both Lola Jean and Esther Jean and two great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Sandy and Roger; son, Dennis; daughter and her husband, Sherril and Irv; son and his wife; Chuck and Tammy, 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 10th at 1:30 pm at Restlawn Funeral Home.
