Our beloved, David Klapperich left this world on August 25, 2022, peacefully at his home in Salem, Oregon from natural causes at the age of 72.
David was born in the small town of Conde, South Dakota on May 13th, 1950, to Wayne and Joyce Klapperich. He lived there for 26 years with his 12 brothers and sisters on their family farm. After high school he went on to South Dakota State University and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. In 1976 he made his way to Oregon to build a life and has been here ever since.
Here in Oregon, he began a career selling farm machinery then eventually moving into the position of a corrections officer at the Oregon State Penitentiary. He met his wife Sonja in Salem, they were married in1979 and began a family life in West Salem with their three daughters.
David enjoyed his time with family, watching football (Go Vikings!) and tinkering with his latest Mr. fix-it project. He was always cracking a joke and telling story after story to anyone who would listen. David was one of a kind. His witty sarcasm will never be forgotten along with the beautiful person he was. Spreading joy, happiness, and copious conversations wherever he went. He will be missed greatly, always holding a place in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife Sonja, daughters Peggy, Jenny, and Jo, sons-in-laws John, Preston and Lucas, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and eight brothers and sisters.
We will be honoring David Klapperich on May 13, 2023, in Rickreall, Oregon to celebrate his life.
