Dorothy's family surrounded her as she peacefully passed away after a long struggle with a chronic illness. she was born to Carl and Mabel Plagmann in Albany, Oregon where she lived until 1935 when the family moved to a farm on the South Santiam River in Lebanon, Oregon. She married Estle Buchanan in 1941 and for 69 years they lived mainly in Salem and were blessed with loving companionship. Dorothy worked 25 years for Salem Public Schools Food Service and was an active member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church. After retirement she and Estle made many good friends at the Courthouse Athletic Center. Dorothy enjoyed dancing, snow-birding to Yuma, Arizona, water aerobics classes, clamming, spending time at the Oregon Coast caring for their coastal property, and being a campground host with Estle. Dorothy and Estle's son Cary Buchanan and wife Marilyn, her duaghter Carla Jones and husband Curt, her daughter Cherry Beeken and husband Kurt, along with 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, will deeply miss her sweet soul. A celebration of life will be held at Restlawn Funeral Home in West Salem on December 10th at 2:00 PM for family and friends; all are welcome to attend.
