Melissa Phipps Dorothy Jean Phipps 08/08/32 – 11/05/20 Dorothy Jean Phipps, 88, was born to William and Ester Billeter in Dixon Nebraska on August 8th, 1932. She passed away in the early morning hours of November 5th, 2020 in Salem, Oregon. The Billiter family moved to Oregon in 1944. While in Oregon, her father opened Billiter's Watch and Clock Repair in Newberg. As the eldest of three sisters, Dorothy used her love of numbers to help with the bookkeeping for her father's store. Dorothy married Jimmy Phipps in 1955. Jimmy and Dorothy settled in Salem, Oregon where they raised four children. Dorothy maintained her career as a bookkeeper retiring from Riverbend Sand and Gravel at the age of 62. Dorothy happily served the community for many years, as a long time member of the Newberg Chapter of Eastern Star. She also prized collecting antiques, particularly glass pieces from the Depression-era. She found great joy in sharing her passion with like-minded collectors and antique store owners. Dorothy also had a strong admiration for beautiful flowers and enjoyed tending to her home garden. She delighted in hosting family holiday and birthday gatherings. Dorothy sought out opportunities for family beach trips and was quick to pull out her Polaroid Camera to capture pictures of her loved ones. She was incredibly proud of her travel adventures, especially her Hawaiian Island getaways. Preceding her in the death are her parents, two sisters, and her husband. Dorothy is survived by her sister, four children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. "But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 Due to COVID-19, there are no public services planned at this time. The family will be hosting a celebration of life event in Dorothy’s honor on August 8, 2021. If you are interested in attending this event please send a written request to Melissa Phipps at P.O.
