Duane "Pete" was born at home on a farm outside of Ellis, Minnesota. He was the seventh child born to Claude Cyrus Case and Estella Pearl Van Cleave (Case). The family moved to Oregon in the early 1930's during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl settling on a farm near Perrydale, Oregon. Pete and his brother Claude were locally famous basketball players for Perrydale. He loved sports, Pete's eyes would light up when you talked to him about playing basketball for a small city league in the 1940's early 1950's. He also enjoyed farming and growing vegetables in his garden, Pete never lost his farm boy roots. Pete also worked in construction as a plaster contractor after getting out of the United States Air Force following WW II where he served as a Cadet Pilot and Airman. In the late 1950's he and his brother Claude bought a restaurant in West Salem and called it "The Hub" they ran it for several years as partners. Pete finally retired from The Hub selling in 1979. Since that time he kept more than busy with farming and growing thousands of pounds of vegetables, which he sold locally and gave away to those in need. Pete was always very generous with his time and energy to family and friends alike.
