Dwight died at home July 14, 2009 at the age of 100, where he had resided with his daughter for the past 3 years. He had lived alone until then. He was a retired Ordained Assembly of God Minister. He was born June 13, 1909 in Ceaderville, Calif. He served in the Guards for a year at Ft. Stevens and graduated from Adcox Auto and Aviation school in 1928. Dwight entered Glad Tidings Bible Institute of San Francisco (now Bethany Bible College of Santa Cruz) graduating in 1931. He and a fellow student started a church in Grass Valley, Calif. where he was for a year. He married Marguerite Winifred Roat February 14, 1932 in Ashland, Ore. They didn't own a car so they rode in the rumble seat of the best man's car to Grants Pass for their honeymoon. Dwight worked in a sawmill in Ashland for 5 years earning 20 cents an hour. During this time his daughter, Dorothea (Joan), and son, Lewis Dwight, were born. His son was born on his birthday. In February 1938, the family moved to Reedsport where he started a church. Dwight pastored churches in Stayton, Elgin, Enterprise, Drain and Harlan Chapel of the Valley in Blodgett between the years of 1943 and 1982. He then moved to Brooks where he attended the Assembly of God Church and was Pastor for the Senior Citizens for about 15 years. He also did visitation until he was 97 years old. Dwight will be remembered for his cheerful and gentle nature. When asked how he was he always responded that he was "wonderful." He was very faithful in all he did. His wife preceded him in death in 1990. He leaves behind daughter, Joan (Bryce) Shumway of Brooks; son, Lewis (Myrna) Roys of Bend; 6 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren (one of which was born the same day he died); and many great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
