Edward “Richard” Hanna died on December 19, 2021, at the age of 90, in Salem, Oregon.
Richard was born on June 18, 1931, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the son of Edward Richard Hanna Sr., and Edith Marion Simpson Hanna.
The family came to the United States in 1948, originally residing in California.
Richard attended Menlo Junior College and later graduated from Stanford University, with a degree in Economics.
In 1954, Richard became a citizen of the United States. He enlisted in the US Army, and was stationed in Frankfort, Germany. He returned at the end of his term of service.
In 1962 he married Phyllis Kaufman. They became the parents of three children, Beverly, Douglas, and Eric. Douglas died at 20 months old, in 1967. Richard and Phyllis later divorced.
Richard worked for Standard Oil (Chevron) in San Francisco, then as a Real Estate broker in Concord, California before moving to Oregon in the late 1980s.
On January 26, 1988, Richard married Joyce Sellers. They resided in West Salem, OR. Richard enjoyed traveling, playing the stock market, eating lemon pie and gardening.
Preceding him in death were his father, Edward Richard Hanna, Sr; his mother, Edith Hanna; his son, Douglas Hanna; and his brother, Timothy Hanna.
Survivors include wife, Joyce Hanna; daughter, Bev (Don) Chaney, Carmel, CA; son, Eric R. Hanna, Salem, OR; grandsons, Spencer Chaney, and Ryan Chaney; stepsons, David Sellers and Craig Sellers, both of Salem; stepdaughter. Lynn (Roland) Mack of Independence; step grandchildren, Amanda Mack, Molly (Brian) Williams, and Alex (Rose) Mack, and three step great grandchildren.
Restlawn Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. No public funeral service will be held. Contributions or donations can be made to the charity of one's choice.
