Duane was born in Watford, North Dakota in 1929. He passed away peacefully on June 2, 2018, in Salem, Oregon with his daughters by his side. He is survived by his twin daughters, Nova Smith and Nina Stockwell and four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Duane was the youngest of 9 children born to Louis & Lillie Kuntz. The family moved to Woodland, California in 1937. They were one of the first families in the Church of the Nazarene.
He attended and graduated from Woodland High School in 1948 and excelled in music playing the trombone in the school band earning a Band Letter Award.
He then went on to further his education at Pasadena Nazarene College where he majored in Theology and minored in Music.
During this time he met the love of his life Flora and married in March of 1951. Their loving union brought forth twin daughters in 1954.
The couple lived in Pasadena and Claremont, California until they moved to Salem, Oregon in 1991. Duane was an active member of the Nazarene Church and was involved in choir directing, choir and drama productions, like Handel’s Messiah and playing the trombone in the orchestra.
Duane was a man of many talents. He was an exceptional trombone player, vocalist, painter, photographer, and woodworker. He loved the outdoors; whether he was fishing, tending his roses in the garden or bird watching.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 7 at Salem First Church of the Nazarene.
