Edward Doyle Ables was born in Harrell, Arkansas on November 14, 1929.
He was the second of six children born to Doyle and Tenalia Ables.
Edward grew up and attended schools in Camden, Arkansas. He went to
work for International Paper Company immediately upon graduation.
Edward was transferred to Gardiner, Oregon in 1964, and remained with
International Paper Company until his retirement in 1985.
On May 23, 1948 Edward married Evelyn Brashier. They had three
daughters, Sandy (Steve) Wright of Oxford, Ohio; Kathy (Clyde) Slavin of
Vancouver, Washington; and Debbie Wattenbarger Cherry (Hank) of
Salem, Oregon.
Edward is survived by his wife of 74 years, Evelyn Ables; his three
daughters; granddaughters Molly Seideman, Erica Knisely, Michelle Slavin,
Rebekah Slavin, and grandsons Stephen Wright and Kyle Wattenbarger;
and great grandchildren Jacob and Luke Wright; Bryson, Paige and Myles

his grandson, Joshua Wattenbarger; his brother, Ralph and his sisters,
Jane, Ruby and Pauline.
Edward and Evelyn were long time members of New Harvest Church in
Salem, Oregon, where they enjoyed the ministry and fellowship. The family
extends a special “thank you” to Pastor Barry Braun for his pastoral care
over the years.
Edward loved Jesus, his family and the Arkansas Razorbacks. He will be
remembered for his ability to tell stories and have everyone laughing; and
for his words of wisdom, including “Don’t worry about the mule, just load
the wagon”.
The family would like to thank the staff at Battle Creek Memory Care for
their loving care and attention during our Dad’s final months.
A graveside service will be planned for a future time.
