Elaine Dorothy Sartin

August 14, 1944 — October 27, 2018

Elaine was born on August 14, 1944 in Richland Missouri to Regina and Howard Giloy.  The Giloys left Missouri during 1945 and ended up in San Pedro, CA.  The Giloys had trouble getting jobs and after a divorce were unable to provide for Elaine and her older sister Ellen.  They were placed in foster care in 1945.Elaine was placed in another foster home in 1946 with Tony and Verna Prizmich and she and her sister were separated.  Elaine was adopted by the Prizmichs in 1951 at 7 years of age.Elaine and her sister lived about a block away from one another and sometimes walked to school together or played at each other's homes.  It was confusing as to why they could not be in the same household together.  As they grew up, their families did not help them stay connected.  Elaine's new family bought and sold property frequently, so Elaine attended a total of eight different schools during her education.  She graduated from Banning High School in Wilmington, CA, in 1962.Elaine's first job was with Pacific Telephone and Telegraph as a long distance operator and Supervisor.  Later she also worked at the offices of Bemis Corporation and Purex Corporation.  Elaine had three sons.  Randy, her step son, was born in 1963.  He was followed by Robert in 1966.  Her last son, Bill, was born in 1970.  In 1968 she met Winford.  They were both a part of a social club called the Tall Club.  They were married in November of 1968.  After the birth of their son Bill, Elaine focused on being a full time mom with the three boys.  Elaine loved her boys and recalls many fun times was well as some challenges when "they were a pain in the butt."Elaine was involved in Cub Scouts with each of the boys.  Elaine and Winford loved to Square Dance.  She also attended Community College and loved taking classes in Art, Philosophy, Psychology and any other classes that interested her.  Elaine loves to draw and create art.   In the mid 1980s, Elaine was able to reconnect with her Sister Ellen and they have remained connected since that time. Friendships have always been an important part of Elaine's life.  Elaine shared that learning to trust people was a major accomplishment for her due to her background of being in foster homes and separated from her sister.  Elaine is someone people are often drawn to and would often tell her their life story.  Strangers would come up to confide and trust in her.  Elaine stated that over the years she did learn she could trust others and that was a big part of her early life with Winford.  Elaine is grateful for almost 50 years of marriage to Winford.  Especially the last 16 years where she has been struggling with cancer.  She thought it was under control until 2012 when it returned.  Winford has cared for her through these years with love.  Elaine leaves behind her beloved husband Winford; sons Randy (wife Cyndie), Robert (wife Tricia), Bill (wife Peggy) ; sister Ellen Cupp and her son Geoff Shafer; along with grandchildren: Chelsea King La Bouton (husband Taylor), R.J. King, and Maeve Sartin.Special thanks go to dear friends Sally Blevins and her family, Royce and Jo Mossgrove, Tom and Tina Reigle, Karla Camera, Ed and Bonnie Hurst, and Cindy Rosecrans.  All of whom have been wonderful and thanks does not seem to be enough.  Also, the family wishes to express many thanks to the Kaiser Oncology Department on Skyline as well as the Willamette Valley Hospice Program.
