SALEM - Eldon L. Calderwood went home to be with the Lord Feb. 4, 2009 at age 81.
Eldon was born in Orange, CA, but lived in Ontario, CA for many years. He joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO. where he met his wife, Alyce Hansen. They were married April 5, 1957 and were blessed with a daughter, Colleen.
After getting out of the service Eldon worked as an auto mechanic. He also operated "Eldon's Texaco" for a time. He moved to Durango, CO to work for Boyd Richner, then to Albuquerque, NM. where a son, Terry was born.
In August of 1970 he moved to Salem, OR with his wife and children where he wore several different "hats". He worked for an auto parts company. He started his own auto repair business "E & A Repair", however the economy was down so he closed the business and went to work again as a mechanic. He also drove school bus for the Salem-Keizer School Dist. He enjoyed his last job as courier, delivering mail from Salem to State Farm offices in the Portland, OR. Area.
Eldon was very active in his church home at Grace Baptist. He kept the church bus running; he had the privilege of ringing the church bell for church services with the help of the children in the church. He was on the Property Commission, helping with maintenance of the church, and also worked in the Awana Program. Eldon loved children.
His numerous nieces and nephews met a great deal to him and he found time for them even those in California as we visited often.
Eldon was a rather shy man until he became acquainted with a person and the friends he made he kept. Eldon also has a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his extended family and will be waiting for each one as they join him in Heaven
