Elwyn George Barker

Elwyn George Barker went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2024 at age 89, joining his wife, Joetta (Wilson) Barker who preceded him in heaven.
Elwyn was born to Kino and Edith (Hogue) Barker on October 23, 1934 in Corvallis, Oregon. He grew up in the Salt Creek and Salem areas.
Elwyn met his wife, Joetta Barker in 1956 as he was driving by her house each day from Salem to Perrydale to his job at Elliot Feed and Seed. One day he stopped… They married on May 4, 1957 in Sheridan, Oregon. They lived and raised their three children, Lori (Barker) Rasar, Mike Barker, and Jeff Barker in Perrydale, Oregon, and was a member of Sheridan Christian Church. He served in the US Army for 2 years, then the Army Reserves until 1963. He served about 10 months in Ulm, Germany in the 803rd Engineers Battalion as a Truck Driver. He worked hard to support his family. When he returned in 1959 from serving our country, he resumed his job at Elliot Feed and Seed driving truck delivering feed to farms along the coast. Later, he worked in a Lumber Mill in Willamina then went back on the road as a Long-Haul Truck Driver for a few years. Elwyn changed occupations and got into construction, building cabinets, installing windows and siding, and roofing. Before his retirement he went back out on the road delivering new Campers, Travel Trailers, and Fifth-Wheel Trailers up and down the West Coast and Alaska, to Dealerships.
In 2007, they moved to the LaPine, Oregon area where he was a member of High Lakes Christian Church. Elwyn enjoyed woodworking, fishing, baking, and cooking for family and friends. Each year Elwyn and Joetta would help bake hundreds of pies for the LaPine Senior Center’s fundraisers. Elwyn also felt it was his ministry to make sure High Lakes Christian Church had an enormous quantity of cookies for their pre-service meet and greet each week. He loved to cook! After Joetta’s passing in 2021, Elwyn returned to the Willamette Valley, to be closer to his children and re-connected with his brothers and sisters.
Elwyn is survived by his children, Lori and Gene Rasar of Salem, Mike and Jennifer Barker of Las Vegas, and Jeff and Carol Barker of Grand Ronde. Grandchildren, Melissa (Rasar) Young, Kristie (Rasar) Shobe, David Barker, Jacqueline Barker, Kierstyn Mankins, Jamie Wright, Tyler Wright, and Samuel Barker. Elwyn had 9 Great Grandchildren and is also survived by 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
A Memorial service will be held at Restlawn Funeral Home in West Salem on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
