She was born on a brisk spring day April 11, 1923 in Glenfield, North Dakota to her loving parents, George and Emma Thiede. The family lived in Glenfield until she was 5 years old. Evelyn and her family then moved to Motley, Minnesota where she spent the majority of her years growing up. While working in The Farmer's Store in Motley, she met Lyle H. Flora. They were married on July 5th 1944. Evelyn and Lyle had two children while living in Minnesota, Danny and Terri. The family stayed in Motley, Minnesota until 1947 and then moved to Brainerd, Minnesota where Lyle worked for a railroad company. At the end of World War II, jobs were scarce and hard to come by. The Flora family packed up and moved out West to Oregon to join relatives. They settled in the Sheridan area on a farm where Lyle worked in the local sawmills and farmed. While living in Sheridan, Evelyn worked as a meat cutter in the Ellis' Grocery Store. The family later moved to Salem where they opened the Evergreen Texaco Service Station. In 1967 they sold the station and opened Oak Park Automotive. Evelyn was a familiar face at the family business. She later worked in the Fine Jewelry department of J.C. Penney and as a teller at Commercial Bank. Lyle and Evelyn retired in 1979 and spent the following years traveling. Lyle preceded Evelyn in death in 1988. Evelyn then met Kurt Bauer. They were married March 11, 1989 and spent 22 years together playing cards and dancing and traveling.
