Till the end of his days Gil always greeted everyone with a “Howdy” or a “Hey kiddo.” He had a welcoming personality and started everyday happily whistling. He was a strong man who gave much to his family, always worked hard and was generous to all he knew.
Gil was born in Seattle, Wash. to Sylvia and Gilbert Ward. He grew up in Seattle, Portland and Salem.
After serving in WWII he met his wife Marge, they were married 67 years upon her passing in 2016. They settled in Keizer and raised five children, which all live in the area: Gilbert A. Ward, Christi (Charles) Landes, Sherri (Ray) Beaty, Nanci (Marty) Friesen and Janet (John Mike) McHugh.
Gil owned and operated Gil Ward Marine, was a River Guide throughout the state of Oregon and an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved all things outdoors and shared this love with his friends and family. After he retired, he spent much of his time in Depoe Bay fishing.
He will be greatly missed by his loved ones who will miss his quick wit, joking personality and recital of cowboy poems. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and his sister Carolee Todd.
Celebration of life will be held Friday, Dec. 27 at 3 p.m. at Keizer Funeral Chapel.
