Hazel Lee Hubbard 02/03/1919 - 12/30/2007 KEIZER - Born in Douglas, Oklahoma, third daughter of Levi and Emma Davidson, Hazel came to Oregon in 1934 after her father died. She graduated from Newberg High in 1937, married Leon in 1939 and helped him graduate from OSU in 1941. Hazel nurtured children, plants and friends through creating warm and welcoming homes in Sherman County, Hillsboro, Banks, Gresham, and Keizer. She valued education and served as both a room mother and Cub Scout leader. Hazel cheered each of her children's educational achievements. All four graduated from Gresham High and continued their education. Hazel enjoyed challenging projects. An accomplished seamstress, painter, and interior decorator, she drove tractors, trucks and forklifts, in addition to supervising large crews of bean and berry pickers. She sewed the family's clothes, enjoyed Norwegian embroidery, tole and china painting. One Christmas she repaired and sewed new outfits for 500 dolls for the Portland Sunshine Division Toy Drive. She knitted baby booties, caps, and slippers for church projects or a new grandchild, even painted a neighbor's house. Hazel and Leon moved to Keizer in 1972 and grew a lush garden full of fuchsias, fruit, flowers and a grape arbor. When Leon retired in 1982 they became active in the American Fuchsia Society, traveled around the west coast for meetings and enjoyed a New Zealand fuchsia trip. Hazel is survived by her husband of 68 years, Leon; four children, David, William, Gordon, and Sharleen; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. All who knew Hazel are invited to a celebration of her life 1 p.m. Wed. Aug. 6, 2008 at Restlawn Funeral Home, Salem.
