SALEM - Hazel passed on peacefully surrounded by family and the caring staff of Rosewood Court on Friday, March 18, 2011.
Hazel Florence Olson was born to Carl and Anna Mayer on February 15, 1922 in Duluth, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur "Wally", brothers; Clifford, Erling Mayer and granddaughter Jennifer along with many dear friends including Gene Fowler. Hazel married Wally on December 28, 1944, they moved to Pheoniz, Arizona in 1958, and moved to Salem in 1979. Hazel worked as a secretary in many diverse organizations; Friendly Visitors Program with YMCA, Arizona Highways and most recently Oregon Revenue. She is survived by children; Galen of Keizer, Coral Sheehan of Phoeniz, Ar. and Debra Bergmann of Lacey, Wa. She enjoyed her five grandchildren, Allison, Hayley, Whitney, Tom and Steve along with five great-grandchildren. Hazel had a very active retirement. She enjoyed involvement in Our Saviors Lutheran, Sons of Norway, South Salem Seniors and Garden Club. She also volunteered with Salem Hospital Lifeline and as a classroom mentor. Hazel enjoyed her walks and friends at Sunnyside Mobile Park.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday 3/24/2011 at 3:00 pm at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Salem.. Arrangements are under the direction of Restlawn Funeral Home in Salem, Oregon.
