Horace Calvin Moore

October 11, 1914 — August 5, 2016

Hokie (Horace) C. Moore was born in a homestead on Fields Creek outside of John Day Oregon and was the 3rd of 7 children. After marrying Aileen Colvin in Klamath Falls, Oregon they moved to Portland where he went to Western Baptist Seminary eventually earning his Masters in Theology and then pursued a ministry in a little church called Haley Baptist and during those years his 3 oldest children were born, Rhoda, Lowell, and Norman. Later after moving his ministry to Newberg his remaining 3 children were born, David, Brian, and Gloria. The next church he became pastor of was in Salem, Oregon at Halbert Memorial Baptist Church and after 10 years there he left to take on Bethel Baptist Church in Fairbanks, Alaska where he resided until his retirement 11 years later. While he built up a church there he also enjoyed hunting and fishing and built lifetime friendships with people across the State of Alaska. He returned to Oregon to continue connecting with the many friends across the State of Oregon. He is preceded in death by his wife Aileen, son Norman, son David, and son Brian.
Hokie is survived by his daughter Rhoda (Bath) in Post Falls, Idaho, by his son Lowell Moore in Snohomish, Washington, and by his daughter Gloria Moore (Shepherd) in Tigard, Oregon and 11 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Service will be held at Salem First Baptist Church 395 Marion St. NE Salem, Oregon 97301 at 3:00 pm on Saturday August 13, 2016. Restlawn Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
