James Roy Bennett

SALEM - James Roy Bennett died on October 20, 2007 in Salem. He was born on October 29, 1914 in Seattle, Washington, to Roy and Ethel (Dunham) Bennett. Jim grew up in the Ballard area of Seattle, attended Salmon Bay Grade School and graduated from Ballard High School. He belonged to the Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the University of Washington, and graduated with a business degree in 1936. He was proud to be called an Ancient Skier of Mount Rainier, along with his childhood friend, Larry Linnane. During the early years of his life, and during WWII, he worked for Seattle Ice and Cold Storage, a family business started by his grandfather. In later years, he was an accountant at Boeing, and the Credit and Office Manager for Warshal's Sporting Goods in Seattle. Jim is remembered, with love and affection, for his remarkably pleasant and easygoing nature. He married Marie Annabelle Ruff in 1942. They enjoyed 54 years together, until her death in 1996 after a long illness. Jim moved to Salem in 1997, and married Marji Beckham in 1999. Marji died in May 2007. They enjoyed life at the Capital Manor retirement community. His sisters, June Johnson and Edith Dittman, preceded him in death. Jim is survived by his daughter, Jacqueleine Anne Kesinger of Eureka, Calif., her children, Jill Kesinger of Coral Gables, Fla. and Julie Kesinger Brimm of Eureka, Calif., Julie's son, Max Brimm; and his son, Roy Vincent Bennett; Roy's wife, Dixie; and their children, Jim and Anna Bennett of Salem. The family of James Bennett would like to thank the Manor Care staff at Capital Manor for the kind, loving, and compassionate care that they provided him during the past several years. No memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.
