James was born on May 11, 1929 in Salem, Oregon to Nile W. and Pauline A. (Ritchie) Hilborn. He passed on June 7, 2012 in Salem due to complications from Parkinson's disease.
Jim grew up in the East Salem area and attended Bethel Elementary School. He graduated from Salem High School in 1947 and attended Willamette University. He worked at Keith Brown Lumber Co. before serving in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. On August 17, 1952 he married Barbara Ilene Peterson. He later became an accountant and worked for Boise Cascade Corp. in Valsetz and Independence. He started Valley Bookkeeping Service in Dallas, Oregon where his family resided from 1963 until 1980.
Jim loved car races and rallys and was active in the Salem Bicycle Club and League of American Wheelmen. He enjoyed photography and bowling and was a major movie buff. After Jim and Barbara moved to Salem he established Stardust Video and Photography with his son. He was a member of Salem First Church of the Nazarene.
Jim is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Barbara, children, Sheryl Neff of Redmond, Oregon, Steve Hilborn (Sandy) of Aloha, Oregon, Laurel Brandt of Newport, Oregon and grandchildren, Amanda Renee Hilborn and Nathan James Hilborn both of Portland, Oregon and Kimberly Anne (Neff) Fountain and her husband James of Norfolk, Virginia.
