Jewell Gowan

Jewell Gowan was born in Potter Valley, California on August 15, 1926. She was a late addition to the family of Judson and Grace (McKee) Gowan, joining her older sister, Jean and brother, Don. She died on October 25, 2024, in Salem, Oregon.

Jewell had a very full life. Jewell grew up on a ranch in Potter Valley. She graduated from Potter Valley High School and later graduating from University of California, Berkley in 1949. On a trip to Oregon, Jewell met John Lorenz. They married on July 3, 1949, at the Presbyterian Church in Mendocino, CA. Jewell and John moved to Carlton, Oregon immediately after their marriage. With Jewell's degree in Business, she had many employment and business endeavors she would enjoy throughout her life. In November 1952, their daughter Judy Jean was born and a month later the family moved to Salem, Oregon. In 1957, a second daughter, Jewell Ann, was born making the family complete.

Family and friends agree that Jewell made the best yeast rolls and pies for all holidays and special occasions! Both Judy and Jewell Ann have taken on this responsibility over the last few years but will never live up to the legend. Jewell's daughters and sons-in-law, Jewell (Rick) Dunn and Judy (Frank) Vanderburg, will miss her very much.

Her daughters would like to thank all the staff of The Springs at Lancaster Village and Willamette Vital Health for the wonderful care given to our mom and support to them. You are all amazing! Services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024 starting at 11:00 AM at Restlawn Funeral Home, 201 N Oak Grove Rd, Salem, Oregon.
