Jimmy Dale “Jim” Dant, 86, baseball fanatic, and avid collector, passed away Monday May 30th 2022 at OHSU in Portland from congestive heart failure. Jim is survived by his 3 adult children, Marjean (Shawn), Robert (Erin), Christy, and his 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Alexander, Autumn, Sage, Kellan, and Liam.
Jim was born in 1936 to doting parents Thomas and Marydell of Gary, Indiana. He joined the Air Force after graduating from Princeton HS, later moving to Portland, where he met Marlene, and they welcomed three beautiful children. Working as a noted florist between 1964 and 1990, Jim had a knack for floral arrangements. He switched careers to become a caregiver in 1991, buying a house in Keizer to provide adult foster care and began driving to collect and distribute charitable food donations around the community.
Jim was an avid collector who frequented thrift and antique stores searching for the perfect collectible. He loved all things related to baseball, decorative wooden nutcrackers, and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Jim treasured the photos of his grandchildren, which he showcased around his house. He found his faith at Salem Evangelical Church, where he attended bible studies.
In honor of Jim, there will be a gathering of family and friends at Restlawn Funeral Home, Memory Gardens & Mausoleum on June 3rd.
