Jimmy Lee Pierce was born October 22, 1941, in Hadley Texas to Fred and Icie Pierce. They moved to Oregon and lived in Turner and Salem. He graduated from Salem High School in 1958 and enlisted in the Navy. His specialty was Sonar. He spent the next 20 years serving his country. It was a life he loved.
He met and married Elva Mae “Micky” Neal in 1966. He became stepfather to three children; Linda, Cindy, and Mike. He was dad, grampa and became great grampa several times over as the years passed by.
He loved country music, cowboy hats, boots, belt buckles, leather, and motorcycles. He owned several motorcycles over the years and spent two weeks on his Harley trike traveling to San Diego to see his adopted son Mike, who resides there with his family. He was so happy to meet grandchildren for the first time and spend time with his son.
After retiring from the Navy in 1978, he went to work. First for Overhead Door in Salem and then for the American Can Company in Salem, then transferring to their Vancouver Washington location, from which he retired. He also drove the activity bus for Madrona Hills Retirement Community in Salem.
Jimmy was very active in the Salem area Eagles club. He enjoyed calling bingo, singing karaoke, dancing, and drinking. He was very fond of whiskey. He spent a lot of time in service there and enjoyed providing transportation for veterans to their medical appointments at the VA hospital.
A massive stroke changed his life dramatically in 2016. He graduated into an assisted living facility in Salem and was then moved into their memory care unit in 2020. He was very ill in the last years of his life. Care staff called him gentle and kind, never complaining about anything.
He was preceded in death by stepson Mike and Micky (Elva), his wife of 46 years.
He left this life very peacefully on Monday, August 15, 2022. He will be buried on August 30, 2022, 11 a.m., with a short military ceremony at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, 97086.
He was truly the best papa ever.
