Joyce Lee Carter

May 11, 1929 — May 26, 2019

Joyce was born May 11,1929, in Texas. Joyce loved the Lord and lived a full life sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone she met.  She was wonderful parent, and friend to her children’s friends and provided a loving environment to anyone who needed encouragement. Joyce led many people to Christ and saw many miracles of healing and deliverance for the people she was led to pray for throughout her life. When she was a child, her minister parents, John D. Tallant and Katy M. Tallant, moved her family to Arizona, and eventually Oregon.  Her child hood was filled with working at a lookout tower along the Mogollon Rim in Arizona, and the scenes she became familiar with were the subject of so many of her paintings. Her family re-located to Creswell, Oregon, where her brothers went to college in Corvallis and Eugene. She had rich country living experience, which is reflected in all of her of stories. She always wanted to move back to Oregon, where she had grown up and did so when she was in her 50’s. She raised her own family in Chula Vista, CA, where she was a private duty nurse for many retirees from the Navy.  She was a writer and had a Cambridge Fellowship that she was very proud of. She published short stories and poems, and wrote 5 books. She was a prolific artist and painted flowers and desert scenes from her time in Arizona. Joyce was a member of The River Church in Salem, OR. Joyce went home to be with the Lord in the comfort of her own home surrounded by the things she loved on May 26, 2019. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Candace Haley, her son-in-law, Stanley E. Haley, her granddaughter, Kate Hernandez, and her son, James David Carter, of Bonita, CA. A memorial service to honor Joyce is being held on June 8, 2019, in Salem, OR.
