SALEM - Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to many, Joyce Dorothy Johns passed away at her home on July 31, 2011. Born in Salem, Oregon to Bill and Dorothy (Weaver) Brown, Joyce lived in and around Salem most all of her life. She married Vic Johns in 1956, and they recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Together they had a son Bill in 1957 and a daughter Deanne in 1962. Joyce and Vic shared a passion for renovating and building houses. They remodeled over a dozen houses together, and built several new homes on the Oregon Coast. Joyce always seemed to love the process, and even enjoyed painting, nailing on shakes, or however she could help. For the past several years, they would winter in Hemet, California where they continued to buy and fix-up the houses they lived in. Joyce had a tremendous passion for life. She loved to play sports, and was an avid tennis and volleyball player. She made numerous lifelong friends, which she affectionately referred to as "the volleyball group", and "the tennis group." Her family and friends meant the world to her, and she would do anything she could to make others happy. Joyce had four precious grandchildren; Michelle, Ryan, Sara and Mitch. She loved them dearly, and was very proud of each one of them. They were all extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful grandma. A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 5th at Restlawn Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens. Arrangements are by Restlawn Funeral Home.
