Our mother Katherine Russell age 92 of Salem, Oregon passed away peacefully on September 1, 2022 in her home surrounded by family. Our mom had a wonderful full life and a big family who loved her tremendously.
Born in Siletz, Oregon June 6, 1930 to John Alexander McDonald and Stella Mae Runyon. Preceded in death by her siblings Margaret Bierbaum, Grace Schwartz, Emily Easter, Archie McDonald and Jack McDonald. Survived by Maxine Wieglenda and Francis Robinson.
Survived by her children Deborah Walker of Washington, Sandra Hynes (Richard Hynes) of South Carolina, Janene Alford (Donald Alford) of California, Daniel Russell of Oregon, Maurlisa Russell of Oregon, Sherrie Campos (Felipe Estopier) of California, Pamela Parsons (Greg Close) of Washington. And her Grandchildren; Timothy Walker, Brian Walker, Jessica Johnston, Stacey Walker, Kelsey Armstrong, Kiel Russell, Tyson Bowen, Dustin Bowen, Alia Russell, Lindsey Russell, Javier Campos. And 10 Great Grandchildren.
She had a great career as an educator and was a very involved member of her community. She graduated from Salem High school in 1950 and from Oregon college of education 1975 (aka Western Oregon). She taught in Salem/Keizer public schools for 25 years and retired in 1995.
She was a member of the retired teachers association for many years. She belonged to Christian Center Church for 50 years and was a member of many bible study groups throughout the years and was also active amongst several social groups.
Our Mom was passionate about cooking for her family and if you were ill mom always had a secret recipe to comfort and heal you. she loved reading, she loved the lord and sharing Gods word. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching little children and always had a humorous story to tell. Mom never met a baby she didn’t love. She loved being a member of the church choir and had a lovely voice.
Mom was a beacon of light to her children and grandchildren and she always had words of wisdom to comfort you through any situation. People always found comfort in her friendship. She was very popular amongst her family and friends. She was a peacemaker and always believed in forgiveness.
Mom’s favorite quote:
“The lord says to us in the scriptures, don’t worry about tomorrow i have given you sufficient grace to get you through this day. I am with you, that is all you need”. (Grace for the day)
