Knute Reinhold Wallgren, 94, went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2013. Knute was born in Alvik, Norrbotten, Sweden, a farming community 10 km outside of Lulea, south of the Arctic Circle. In 1929, the family emigrated to Edgerton, Alberta, Canada.
As a citizen of Canada, he served with the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II, June 11, 1941 through October 1, 1945, seeing duty as a Wireless Operator (Signal Corpsman) at Normandy on D-Day through France, Holland, and Germany with service stars issued September 3, 1945. After the war, he attended Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills, Alberta, where he sang bass with a quartet. He met his future wife when this group needed an accompanist while traveling in Canada.
He married Amy Esther Archer of Vantage, Saskatchewan, Canada in September, 1949, having one daughter, Gloria Cheryl. The family moved to Keizer, Oregon in 1960. As a First Class Electrician, he was a member of Electrical Workers Union, Lodge 280. Knute and Amy ministered together throughout the Northwest for twenty years with the gospel quartet, "Songs of Praise." He sang bass and his wife, Amy, was the pianist. They also owned and managed apartments in Salem for many years.
Knute was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Reinhold Wallgren and Augusta Kristina Nilsson; his siblings Elin Valborg Wallgren, Judith Maria Wallgren, and Siri Augusta Jack; and his wife Amy of 57 years. He is survived by his brother, Robert Richard Wallgren of Wainwright, Alberta, Canada; his daughter Gloria and her husband Michael; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Restlawn Funeral Home, 201 Oak Grove Rd. NW, Salem, Oregon at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013.Interment Claggett Cemetery Keizer.
