Larry A. Stuart

August 8, 1947 — August 2, 2020

Beloved husband, father, and Salem businessman, Larry A. Stuart, age 72, passed away on August 2, 2020 from complications following a stroke.  He was born August 8, 1947 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, to parents Don and Alice Stuart.  The family moved to the Northwest and eventually settled in Springfield, Oregon, where Larry graduated from Springfield High School.  He went on to attend Willamette University for a short time before joining the Army, where he was stationed in Germany during the late 1960s.  Upon returning to Oregon, he joined his father in the family business, Stuarts Auto Supply. A natural talent for management and operations, Larry became an owner of the business; first with his father and later with his brother, Jack Stuart.

In 1974, Larry married the love of his life Susan Trueblood Stuart.  Larry first spotted Susan on the dance floor, waited patiently for an opportunity to ask for a dance and then never let her go. They were married for 46 years, traveled the world together, and continued their lifetime love of dancing as members of the Sup Club. Larry played basketball and then became an avid tennis player and skier. He also loved to ride and race his recumbent bike all over the Pacific Northwest.

1984 Larry’s life opened ever wider when he became a father. A tireless  champion and buddy, he was always interested in the endeavors of his son Paul.  With a radio voice, booming laughter, and sense of adventure, he loved hosting others, often engaging in deep discussions involving sports or politics. He was active and curious about his loved ones - knowing their interests, teams, always current on their accomplishments. He appreciated good food, live music, and treasured exploring craft breweries with Paul.

He is survived by his wife Susan, children Paul Stuart (Stacey), Peder Trelstad (Theresa) and Bergitta Trelstad; grandchildren Alec, Kirsten, Parker, and Ryan; siblings, Linda, Jack (Annette), and Cynde Stuart as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial to celebrate his life will be held at a future date, once large gatherings are safe. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Willamette Valley Hospice.

Contributions can be sent to Willamette Valley Hospice of Salem in his memory.
