We are saddened to announce the loss of Laura Frances Bender, who left this world peacefully on April 13, 2025, in Salem, Oregon. Laura was born on August 21, 1962, in Smithtown, New York, to her loving parents, Daniel and Frances Wittgartner. She was a devoted wife, beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and a true friend to many.
Laura's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to family and community. After graduating from Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Colorado in 1980, she pursued a career in banking, serving as a loan processor for most of her professional life before retiring early in 2015. Her work ethic and commitment to her profession were admired by many, but it was her role as a mother that she cherished the most.
Laura married her soulmate, Lee Bender, in Denver, Colorado, on May 6, 1983. Their love story began as teenagers working together at Elitch Gardens, and blossomed into a beautiful partnership that spanned over four decades. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Brandon Bender and Maegan Dunlap, who is married to Brian Dunlap. Laura took immense pride in being a grandmother, finding joy in the laughter and love shared with her grandsons, Liam and Oliver Dunlap.
Throughout her life, Laura was actively involved in her church community in Denver, where she served as a Deacon and was a dedicated Girl Scout Leader. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and shaping her generous spirit. Laura was known for her kindness, warmth, and friendliness, often striking up conversations with strangers and leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.
In addition to her community involvement, Laura had a variety of hobbies that brought her joy. She was an accomplished oil painter, enjoyed hosting gatherings for family and friends, and cherished the simple pleasures of coffee and travel. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandkids, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Laura's legacy is one of unconditional love and support. She touched the lives of many with her giving nature and talkative spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She was a vibrant soul whose laughter could light up a room and whose kindness knew no bounds.
