Laurie East
73, of Salem, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2018, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on March 22, 1945 in Portland, Oregon to George and Vivian (Werschkul) Shaylor. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Portland, Oregon and attended the University of Oregon, where she studied English and Elementary Education and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
Laurie’s life journey was guided by her faith and the joy she derived from serving others. She was a devoted Christian, worshipping and serving for many years through Faith Lutheran Church in Andover, Massachusetts and later at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Salem, Oregon. Laurie’s willingness and ability to tackle any project head-on was remarkable. Even the most complex gadgets were fixed and running in minutes under her watch.
She is survived by her husband of 9 years, Erik “Rik” H. East, of Salem, Oregon; a daughter Michelle S. Appleby and her husband, Mark, of Cohasset, Massachusetts; sons Gregory A. DeVoir and his wife, Joanne, of State College, Pennsylvania and Stephen P. DeVoir and his wife, Tracey, of Ashburn, Virginia; stepsons Marcus A. East and his wife Amy C. East and Erik H. East III of Salem, Oregon; twelve grandchildren, Kathryn DeVoir, Allyson DeVoir, Charlotte DeVoir, Rebecca DeVoir, Bradley DeVoir, Liam DeVoir, Ian Appleby, Justin Appleby, Alexis East, Aidan East, Kellen East and Connor East.
