Laverne "Vern" Lesmeister

October 9, 1928 — November 12, 2014

Vern Lesmeister went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of November 12, 2014. He passed away peacefully in his home following a short illness. In his last hours, he was surrounded by his loving and caring wife and family.
He was born on a farm in Montrose Missouri to Lawrence and Magdelene Lesmeister, later as a teenager traveling to become a nearly 70 year long-time resident of Salem, working much of his life in the Construction trade. Look around you! He probably built the buildings you frequent to include Schools, Government Buildings, Churches, Malls, and countless others. Following retirement, his wife of 66 years, Mildred and he served in the U. S. Peace Corps in the African nation of Ghana. Following that, again his wife and he served as volunteers within the U.S. Forest Service, maintaining and protecting the forests and rivers of this Great and Beautiful Nation of America . There truly is not enough space here to list out all of the things this talented and loving man did in his lifetime.
Second only to the love of Jesus, the most precious of all things was his love for his wife Mildred, 6 children: Lynette Crocker (John), David Lesmeister (Diane), Mike Lesmeister (Linda), Tim Lesmeister, Theresa Carpenter (John), Phillip Lesmeister, 14 grandchildren, and many numerous great-grandchildren. Also, foster children: Dawn Nunn and Terry Schwartz. He is also survived by two sisters: Patty Williams and Wilma Lesmeister,. He was preceeded in death by siblings: Roy, Eugene, Larry, and Ruthie.
Much thanks to the Intermediate Care Unit Physicians and Nursing staff of Salem Hospital and the staff of Willamette Valley Hospice who cared for him tenderly and went the extra mile to get our Dad, Vern, home for his last few hours. His wife and children are eternally Grateful!
Service Mass will be held at St Vincent DePaul Church in Salem on Tuesday, November 18th, at 11 AM. Rosary begins at 10:30 AM.
"Eye has Not Seen, nor Ear Heard, nor has it even entered into the Heart of Man, the things that God has prepared for those who Love Him." 1st Corinthians 2:9.
Our Dad has gone Home. It is indeed a Glorious Day!
