Llewellyn Lewis "Lew" Murdock

June 12, 1925 - July 6, 2015
Llewellyn "Lew" Lewis Murdock, Jr. was born in Seattle, WA on June 12, 1925. He grew up in Seattle, graduating from Garfield High School in 1943, and then from Seattle Pacific College in 1947. After college, he attended Western Baptist Seminary in Portland, OR, graduating from California Baptist Seminary in 1951. That same year he married Dolores Lewis, a Los Angeles teacher. He was the minister of several churches in the state of Washington until he began a twenty-year career as an Army chaplain. He retired as a Colonel in 1977, at which time he moved to Salem, OR.
In retirement, he volunteered weekly in a ministerial capacity at Madrona Hills Retirement Center, enjoyed gardening, woodworking, reading, listening to music, traveling, and telling a good joke. In 2010, Lew and Dolores moved to Capital Manor.
Lew is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Joan (Steve) Feriante of Puyallup, WA; Carol (Steve) Hendrickson of Anaheim, CA; Terry (Marla) Murdock of Salem, OR; and Russ (Denise) Murdock of Huntington Beach, CA; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sisters, Janet Shroyer of Scottsdale, AZ; and Kathy Hunt of Salem, Oregon.
His family expresses their heartfelt appreciation for the care their dad received while living at Capital Manor, and at the end of his life from Willamette Valley Hospice.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 2:00 PM, at Capital Manor, 1955 Dallas Highway NW, Salem, Oregon, 97304. Private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Oregon.
