Lois Albright Thornton

October 23, 1927 — December 16, 2014

Lois Albright Thornton passed away at the Willson House, Salem, at age 87. She was disabled by Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and other illnesses. She was cared for by the staff at Willson House and Hospice. Lois was born in Chicago to Harry and Myrtle Albright. Most of her adult life was spent in Salem, though in her childhood, she lived in Southern Oregon and the Portland area.

She is survived by her husband, Jack, and children: Perry of Seattle, Craig of McMinnville, and Ruth of West Salem. Her grandchildren are Dominic, Ryan, Josiah, Rose, Teresa, Anne, and Kate. Keith is her great-grandchild. She survived the deaths of her sons Lee and Keith. Her major employment was being a substitute teacher in Salem schools. She was very active in Trinity United Methodist Church in East Salem. She was active with the women society, church leadership, choir, and food bank. She assisted her husband on a small farm on Macleay Road. She sang with the Salem Just for Fun singers. In all of her activities and accomplishments, her children would agree that she was the best mother ever!

As a youth, she went through the Vanport flood and worked in the family inn on Mt. Hood. She graduated from Sandy High School, and the University of Oregon, as an art major. At Oregon she was student president of Hendricks dormitory.

Memorial services will be on Saturday, January 3rd at 1 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 590 Elma St. SE, Salem. It is suggested that funds be given to the church's memorial fund, in lieu of flowers. Loislifeob.412
