Luella Elizabeth Brandt

Luella Elizabeth Brandt 08/20/1923 - 03/05/2008 SALEM - Luella passed away after a brief illness at Salem Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John H. Brandt who died March 4, 1998. Luella was a very active and energetic lady! After leaving home and school, she worked in a wide variety of jobs as she and John were raising their family, including as a telephone operator; in the Portland shipyards during the World War II; and in the family business, JB Appliance Repair. She loved luncheons with her friends, traveling by train to see the sights, trips to the coast, the Riverfront Park (especially the Carousel!); and her many visits to relatives and friends in the area. She will be remembered waving good-bye through her open sunroof! She will be missed by her three children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. They are as follows: daughter, Penelope and husband Robert Gipson of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandson, Christopher and wife Elizabeth with their twin daughters, Sara and Emma of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Dr. Jonathon Gipson and wife Robin of St. Paul, Minn.; grandson, Elliot and wife Rachel Gipson of Los Angeles, Calif.; son, John and Joyce Brandt of Salem; granddaughters, Chelene and Ciara Brandt of Salem; son, Patrick and wife Peggy Brandt of Mattawan, Mich.; and grandson, Joshua Brandt of Washington, D.C. A celebration of Luella's life for family and friends will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1230 Liberty St. SE, Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to Galluadet University, 800 Florida Ave. NE, Washington, D.C.; The Salvation Army, Salem, Ore.; or Doernbecher Children's Hospital, c/o Oregon Health Sciences University, Portland, Ore.
