Marion “Skip” Knox was born in Santa Rosa, California, on January 5, 1929. She and her parents, Eva and George Knox, soon moved to California, where Skip attended schools and graduated from high school in Lodi.
In June of 1949 Skip joined the Womens Army Corps and was assigned to Camp Roberts as a telephone operator. After her discharge from the Army, she moved to San Jose, until 1972, when she moved to Oregon. Her mother, sister Dorothy and brother Merle already lived in Oregon until their deaths. She settled in Salem in 1974 and worked for the state of Oregon until retirement.
Skip loved her pets, dogs and cats, dearly, and also spent much time in her beautiful garden. She enjoyed travel, spending time on cruises and trips to Europe, Australia and Hawaii. She was a talented artist, working with oils, pastels and pencil.
Skip was also a Life Member of the American Legion and served several terms as Post Commander and over twenty-five years as Adjutant of Pioneer Post #149, an all-women veterans Post in Salem.
Skip passed away at Salem Hospital after a long life. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church UCC, 700 Marion St. NE, Salem, on Saturday, January 18th at 2:30 p.m. Donations in her memory can be made to the church or your favorite animal welfare organization.
