Salem- Marlene was born in Highland, Wisconsin and spent most of her childhood in Madison, Wisconsin. She graduated from Central High School in Madison, and then obtained a nursing degree. In the mid 70's she became licensed as a realtor. She continued to work in nursing part time and sold real-estate as a second profession. She retired from Salem Hospital in the mid 90's. Marlene met her husband, John Martinez while he was stationed at Truax Air Force Base in Madison. Upon John's return from duty overseas, they were married on May 8, 1954. They moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and had four daughters. They moved to Salem, Oregon in 1969. Marlene was a loving friend, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and occasionally with the black jack table. She loved to laugh. Marlene is preceded in her death by daughter Laurie Ann Gibson. Loved and loving survivors include husband, John; daughters, Diana (George) Davis, Kim (Randy) Cardwell and Nancy (Matt) Overholt. She has seven grandchildren and four great-grand children. A funeral servicce will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 30 at Restlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Willamette Valley Hospice.
