Born July 25th in Walla Walla Washington, Melani Smith passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, while resting peacefully at her home in West Salem on June 12, 2013 after suffering a massive stroke one week prior. Melani the third child of Robert and Irma Lee Smith of Woodburn, Oregon grew up with her brothers, Michael, Duane, Kevin, and Kerry. She was an avid fisherman and a talented musician and singer whose wonderful smile and great sense of humor were appreciated by everyone who ever heard her perform. As registered nurse, Melani worked for over twenty years at the Salem Clilnic. She truly loved her work and those whom she served. Even after leaving the clinic she continued to assist those in need, including a trip to the east coast as a Red Cross volunteer helping in the aftermath of hurricane Sandy.
Melani never stopped thinking of others before herself. Even in the final weeks of her life her greatest concern was for the welfare of her friends, neighbors, family, and especially of her two boys, Joel and Ryan. In her final days, Melani Kept reminding everyone that, "God is good...all the time"
